I encourage you to pause and reflect on "Do I need this, what is this for, is it really a good deal" before you buy anything today or over this weekend.

We just had a supplier make a "Black Friday offer" of a laptop marked down from £925 to £705. Good deal right....except you can buy the same model for £420 from most other places.

We protect our clients from situations like that and we have compiled a "cheat sheet guide" on which laptop to get depending on what you are looking for. We have no affiliate links or commision from the reccomendations we have made and for legal reasons we offer no warranty/liability/support/promises/blood-oaths which say the suggestions here are the best for you. Like all things in life, take with a pinch of salt.

We are focusing entirely on Windows based systems but you can always consider an Apple Mac or a Google Chromebook which might fit.

You will notice all of the reccomended units come with SSD, this ensures a much faster laptop but lower storage

Cheap as possible

You absolutely have to have a laptop and want speed but are on a tight budget, look towards refurb systems. Despite the age and lack of warranty, these are fast performers so if you are on a shoe string budget, you might be surprised by what you can get.

Mid range constant use

You want a machine with warranty, speed, new features and need a reliable work-horse for day to day use.

Video editing on a budget or other creative interests

If you want to take video editing seriously but cannot afford a flagship laptop, look towards this very well priced unit.

High End, High performance

Once you try one of these out. It is very difficult to go back to using a slower machine. Also the style and design is jaw droppingly good on a number of them. If you are a business it can be possible to get demo units of these before committing to purchase and finance options are available as well.

The XPS 15 is great for creatives on the go but for those who need less power, the XPS 13 is a good choice.
